Hammocks

What types of hammocks are there?

We would like to explain the difference between the different models of hammocks that we sell. Visit the product page of each hammock for more product-specific information.

🇨🇴 Colombian hammock

The Colombian hammocks are more luxuriously finished than our Brazilian hammocks. These are the advantages of a Colombian hammock:

  • The fabric is woven slightly thicker - More grams per cm2.
  • The fabric is woven slightly softer.
  • The fabric always has a woven pattern.
  • The fabric often has multiple colors.
  • The fabric is woven to exactly the right width.
  • The hammock stretches ± 10%.
  • Open hanging loop - So that the ropes adjust more easily.
  • Cadejo of 15 cm - The hanging ropes are not directly attached to the hammock. This improves the spread of the cloth.

🇧🇷 Brazilian hammock

The Brazilian hammocks have a slightly less luxurious finish than the Colombian hammocks. The hammocks are absolutely not less strong or of lower quality. These are the advantages of a Brazilian hammock:

  • The fabric is woven slightly more densely.
  • The fabric does not have a woven pattern.
  • The fabric has a solid color.
  • The fabric is woven to exactly the right width.
  • The hammock stretches ± 15%.
  • Closed hanging loop.
  • Cadejo of 5 cm - The hanging ropes are not directly attached to the hammock. This improves the spread of the cloth.

🇨🇳 Chinese hammock

We always recommend a Colombian or Brazilian hammock. However, we would like to highlight a few differences so that you can make a good choice.

A Chinese hammock is not woven to size but cut from a large cloth. This produces extra waste. To prevent fraying of the edges, the cloth is then hemmed. A South American hammock is woven exactly to size and does not require a hem.

With a Chinese hammock, the ropes to hang the hammock are sewn or pierced directly to the hammock. With a South American hammock, the ropes are already taken into account during weaving. As a result, the ropes are not directly attached to the canvas (Cadejo). This gives a much better finish and ensures that the hammock spreads open more easily.

If you decide to order a Chinese hammock, choose the brand 123 Hammock. Other brands are often much smaller than what the specifications or photos would lead you to believe.

Chinese hammocks are often sold as Brazilian hammocks. This is because "Brazilian hammock" is sometimes used to indicate the model, a classic hammock. So always check the origin of the hammock.

🇲🇽 Mexican hammock

Mexican hammocks do not have a closed cloth but are made of hundreds of woven ropes. A wonderfully airy hammock. A Mexican hammock is less suitable for children because of the hundreds of braided wires.

➖ Hammock spreader bar

Spreader bar hammocks are hammocks equipped with a spreader bar. The advantage is that no cloth falls over you when you lie in it. This makes such a hammock very suitable for sunbathing. The disadvantage is that the hammock is more unstable.

🇺🇸 American hammock

American hammocks are spreader bar hammocks with a padded lining. The hammocks are therefore thicker and look luxurious. These hammocks are usually supplied with a matching cushion.

🌎 Travel hammock

A travel hammock is made of parachute fabric and is therefore very light and compact. A travel hammock often comes with hanging cords so you can hang it anywhere.

How do I determine the correct size of the hammock?

We always say about hammocks: The bigger, the better! 😀

So if you have the budget and the space, choose a double or a family hammock. Because the cloth is larger, you can lie in your hammock in several ways.

Choose at least a hammock where the length of the cloth (not the total length) is 30 cm longer than your own height. You will then still have some play left at your feet and at your head.

All our hammocks are suitable for a normal adult person. Only the hammocks called Small are less suitable for tall people. This hammock has been specially developed for small spaces.

Hammock without or with spreader bar?

Although hammocks did not originally have spreader bars, the hammock with spreader bars is on the rise. Both hammocks have their own advantages.

Hammock without spreader bar

In a hammock without a spreader bar, a classic hammock, you have a little more privacy. Depending on whether you want more or less privacy, you can lie more diagonally or straighter. The curtain then wraps around you, as it were.

A hammock without a spreader bar also wears out less quickly. This is because the cords do not run through a spreader bar and therefore chafe, but also because the weight can be distributed much better over all the cords.

A classic hammock without a spreader bar can be hung more loosely. This makes the cloth open better. You therefore have to hang the hammock slightly higher than a hammock with a spreader bar. Learn more about hanging a hammock.

Hammock with spreader bar

In a hammock with spreader bars you can go straight into so you take up less space when you use it. However, the hammock with spreader bars does take up more space when you are not using it than one without spreader bars.

A hammock with spreader bars is more unstable than a hammock without spreader bars. So you fall out a little easier. This is because you spend more time on the hammock than in it. If you first sit quietly in the hammock and then lie down, there is nothing wrong.

It is good to know that a hammock with a spreader bar often wears out faster than a classic hammock. This is because the cords that run through the spreader bar always chafe slightly. You don't have to worry about falling to the ground all at once. If one cord ever snaps, there are plenty of other cords to keep you in the air.

You can hang a hammock with a spreader bar a little tighter. The hammock can therefore be hung slightly lower than a classic hammock. Learn more about hanging a hammock.

Conclusion

A hammock with spreader bar is ideal for real sun worshipers. This is because you spend more time on the hammock than in it. So it is better for the sun to shine on your entire body. The classic hammock is perfect for lazing around.

How do you lie in a hammock?

Classic hammock

A common mistake is to lie straight in a classic hammock to lie down. Then the cloth wraps completely around you and you lie in a cocoon. Therefore, lie diagonally in a hammock. Then you hold the curtain open with your body.

By lying diagonally in the hammock, you can lie comfortably alone in a double or family hammock. You hold the canvas open with your body by lying in it at a slightly more angle.

You should not hang a classic hammock too tightly. Because otherwise the canvas will not spread open easily. The looser the hammock hangs, the easier it unfolds.

Hammock with spreader bar

You can lie straight in a hammock with spreader bar. This is because the spreader bars keep the canvas open.

You can hang a spreader bar hammock a little tighter.

Can I sleep in a hammock?

According to a South American, you can definitely sleep in a hammock! Although regular beds are increasingly used, some people still bring their own hammock when they go to stay with someone. 😴

If you ever visit South America, you will see that in some hotels and houses there are round rings or hooks built into the walls. These are hooks to hang your hammock.

Benefits of sleeping in a hammock

Sleeping in a hammock offers several advantages over sleeping in a traditional bed.

Hammocks take up less space than traditional beds, making them ideal for small spaces. You can also easily store the hammock to create extra space.

Improved sleep quality

For some people, sleeping in a hammock can lead to a deeper and more restful sleep. The rocking motion can help you fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply, resulting in better sleep quality.

Sleeping in a hammock often promotes a more natural sleeping position, as you automatically keep your body in a slightly curved position, which can help reduce tension in the neck and back.

Back support and better blood circulation

A hammock adapts to the shape of your body, which can result in better support for your back. This can be especially beneficial for people with back problems, as it can reduce the pressure points often associated with traditional mattresses.

The gentle swings in a hammock can promote blood circulation, which can help reduce tension and pressure points. In addition, the rocking movements can have a soothing effect on the mind, which can reduce stress and anxiety. This can lead to a more relaxing sleeping experience.

Is sleeping in a hammock for everyone?

It is important to note that not everyone sleeps comfortably in a hammock. Some people may experience back pain if they are not used to this sleeping method. So it is important to take your personal preferences and needs into consideration.

Sleeping in a hammock is especially suitable for people who sleep on their backs a lot. Side sleepers can also often sleep well in a hammock, although it will take some getting used to at first. If you are a real stomach sleeper, a hammock to sleep in is often not suitable for you.

Even if you turn and move a lot in your sleep, a hammock is less suitable, or very suitable. Huh? You cannot easily turn around in a hammock. That can be annoying, especially if it wakes you up. Some sleepers actually wake up from their own tossing and turning. Because you can move less in a hammock, they will sleep more peacefully.

Which hammock to sleep in?

Go for a classic double or larger hammock. Don't choose a hammock with a spreader bar.

You can move more easily in a larger hammock. This means you don't always have to lie in one position. We therefore always recommend the largest possible hammock.

A hammock with a spreader bar will wobble more than a classic hammock. It makes it easier for you to fall out. So a hammock with a spreader bar is not suitable as a real sleeping hammock.

More points to take into account

Most use a pillow to support the neck. That is why we have matching cushions for every hammock. A blanket is also nice for colder nights. We also have a solution for that with our matching plaids.

Sleeping in a hammock is truly a discovery. Some love it and some don't like it. But give it some time, you will really have to get used to it. Sleeping with two people in one hammock is not recommended.

Which hammock can I hang outside?

All hammocks we sell are of excellent quality and can withstand a beating, bright sun and rain. 🌦

It is always wise to store the hammock in a dry, dark place after use. This way the colors remain the best and do not fade.

If you leave the hammock outside all summer, the warranty will be void.

Weather spots

If you leave the hammock hanging outside, weather spots may form. Especially under a tree, canopy or in the shade, the hammock will stay wet longer and dry less quickly. Weather spots can form after just one or two days. Learn more about removing weather spots.

Colourfast

Colors will fade in the sun. Unfortunately, this cannot be remedied.

Which hammock lasts the longest?

Are you looking for an extra durable hammock that will last a long time? Then we would like to give you some tips.

Hanging cords

The hanging cords are the weakest link of a hammock. The weight is ultimately distributed over a number of cords.

A classic hammock without a spreader bar distributes this weight best.

A hammock with a spreader bar distributes the weight less well through the spreader bar. In addition, the cords rub / chafe through the spreader bar. This can cause the cords to fray over time.

Large hammock = More hanging cords

The larger the hammock, the more hanging cords the hammock has. A family hammock has about 40% more cords than a single hammock. This also means that the weight is distributed much better.

Conclusion

Choose the largest possible classic hammock when you want to enjoy the hammock for a long time. Store the hammock dry when not in use.

Would you rather not store the hammock and let it hang outside? Then choose the Family Hammock “Rope” with Spreader Bar. The open structure allows this hammock to dry well. With its dimensions, there are enough hanging cords to distribute the weight. We always recommend the “Rope” hammock for campsites where the hammock remains outside all season long.

Can I try out a hammock first?

You can always try our products at home first. If you do not like the product, in most cases it can be returned to us free of charge.

The hammock / hanging chair must be neatly folded and returned in the supplied bag. The product must not show any signs of use. A hammock stand must also be returned to us undamaged. Read all about returns here.

You can also try the products in our showroom by appointment.

Do you also print hammocks?

We do not print hammocks. Do you want to print hammocks? Then order the hammocks from us and find a specialist printing company near you. We can give you some tips for printing a hammock.

Which hammocks can be printed?

All fabric products can be printed. We recommend our plain Brazilian hammocks. These are slightly stiffer and more densely woven than our Colombian hammocks. A more densely woven cloth is easier to print on and the print is more visible on a plain cloth.

Which printing technique is used?

We recommend digital transfer printing. This makes it possible to print all colors (CMYK). When embroidering, the threads come out on the back of the fabric. This looks sloppy, which is why hammocks are often not embroidered.

How long will the print last?

This strongly depends on how the hammock is used. If the hammock hangs outside all summer in all weather conditions, the printing will unfortunately not last long. If the hammock is stored dry after use, the print will last for years.

How to order printed hammocks?

Order the hammocks directly via the website. You will automatically receive a discount for larger quantities! Unfortunately, we cannot print the hammock. To do this, go to a specialist printing company near you. Personalized products can no longer be returned.

My hammock is shorter than the specified specifications?

Received a hammock that is a little too short? Don't panic, that's normal. The hammock still stretches. After 1-2 weeks of use, the hammock will reach and maintain its final length. However, the hammock will shrink slightly if you do not use the hammock for a long period of time.

All hammocks are handmade, so small differences in size are possible.

If you are ultimately not satisfied, you can always return it for free.

How much does my hammock stretch?

Because cotton grows, blooms and is processed differently in every country, the extent to which the hammock can stretch also differs.

🇧🇷 Brazil 10-15%
🇨🇴 Colombia 5-10%
🇨🇳 China 5-10%
🇮🇳 India ± 5%
🇲🇽 Mexico 5-10%

A Brazilian family hammock of 4 meters can therefore initially be as much as 50 cm too short. Also take this into account when hanging the hammock. Especially if you are going to drill holes in walls.

What is a Second Chance product?

This concerns a product that has been returned to us by the customer. The product has been checked by us upon arrival. The box in particular was damaged by shipping. The product also has minor signs of use. There are some scratches and dents. But no more than what you would get after a few weeks of use.

If you would prefer to receive an undamaged product, we recommend not ordering a second-chance product. Our normal return policy applies to second-chance products.

Guarantee on a hammock or hanging chair

The warranty for a hammock or hanging chair is 1 year from the date of purchase. If the hammock or hanging chair shows material or manufacturing defects within 1 year, we will repair or replace the hammock or hanging chair.

The warranty applies to material or manufacturing defects. This warranty does not apply to product parts that are subject to normal use or weather influences. Use in public spaces, such as campsites and holiday parks, is excluded from the warranty. The hammock must be stored dry at all times when not in use if you wish to make use of the warranty.

Hammock Maintenance

How do I store my hammock or hanging chair?

Store your hammock in a dry, dark place. This way the colors last best and do not fade. Make sure the hammock is completely dry before storing to prevent mold and weather stains.

Did you know that mice also like hammocks? Therefore, store the completely dry hammock in a closed plastic bag. Especially when you store it in a place where mice may be present, such as a shed or attic. 🐀

How do I clean/wash my hammock or hanging chair?

A classic hammock is easy to clean. A hammock with a spreader bar is more difficult to wash due to... the spreader bars that unfortunately cannot be removed. The colors of a hammock will fade by washing the hammock.

The warranty and right of return expire when the hammock is washed.

Recommended: Hand wash

Because the bright colors of the hammock can bleed, always opt for hand washing and let the hammock dry naturally (so no dryer!). Hang the hammock neatly while drying and the hammock will immediately be free of wrinkles and imperfections.

Tie the cords together so they don't get tangled. If the hammock has “Cadejo” (the small twisted wires that come out of the hammock), tie it together.

Wash in the washing machine

We always recommend hand washing. Washing your hammock in the washing machine is possible provided the following precautions are taken.

Tie the cords together so they don't get tangled. If the hammock has “Cadejo” (the small twisted wires that come out of the hammock), tie it together.

The use of a laundry bag is highly recommended so that the cords do not get caught on anything. Never wash the hammock with other clothing as the colors may bleed.

Tumble dry

This is absolutely not recommended. Allow the hammock to dry quietly by hanging it out.

How do I remove mold / weather spots from my hammock or hanging chair?

If you do not store the hammock dry or let it hang outside for too long, mold can grow in the hammock. Small black dots will then form. Especially under a tree, canopy or in the shade, the hammock will stay wet longer and dry less quickly. Weather spots can form after one or two days.

It is important to remove mold as quickly as possible to prevent further spread, damage and health risks. If the fungus has penetrated too deeply or if the hammock is seriously damaged, it may be necessary to purchase a new hammock.

Mild soap solution

Mix a mild soap solution with warm water. Do not use harsh chemicals as they can damage the hammock fabric. Gently apply the soap solution to the affected area using a soft brush or sponge.

Vinegar solution

Vinegar is known for its antifungal properties. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray the mold areas. Let it soak in for a while.

Sunlight

Let the hammock dry in direct sunlight. Sunlight can help kill any remaining mold spores and disinfect the hammock.

To prevent mold from forming in the future, make sure you let the hammock dry completely before storing. Also store the hammock in a dry, well-ventilated place.

Spreader bar

Is your spreader bar starting to show black dots or spots? The spreader bar has probably been wet or is hanging in the shade or under a tree. You can solve this by lightly sanding the spreader bar with sandpaper with a fine grain size (< 200). If you do this in time you will also prevent further spread.

It is possible that only one spreader bar in a hammock has this problem. Then the other spreader bar hangs a little drier, catches more of the wind or gets more sun.

Can I repair a hammock or hanging chair?

Repairing a hammock depends on the type of damage that has occurred. We recommend that you always check the product carefully and ensure that the product can still be used safely. We are not liable or responsible for the use of a repaired hammock.

Here are some tips to address common hammock problems:

Small cracks or holes

It is best to close small cracks or holes immediately. This way you have no chance of the hammock tearing out further.

You can close these holes or tears with a needle and thread. Use strong thread and make several stitches to completely close the tear. 🧵

If the tear is a bit larger, you can sew a piece of strong fabric over the tear at the top and bottom. Place the repair fabric on both sides of the damaged area and sew it with strong thread.

Loose seams

If the seams of the hammock become loose, sew them by hand or with a sewing machine. Use strong sewing thread and make several stitches to secure the seam.

Broken hanging cords

If one cord has snapped, you can carefully tie it back together with an extra piece of cord. The extra piece of cord ensures that there is no extra tension on the cord and it will snap again.

If several hanging cords have broken, we recommend that you no longer use the hammock.

Frayed “Cadejo” cords

Brazilian and Colombian hammocks have “Cadejo”. These are the small twisted wires from the hammock to which the hanging cords are attached.

These “Cadejo” cords are twisted and secured with a small string. They sometimes want to come off in a washing machine (we therefore always recommend hand washing). You can wind up the cords again and then secure them again with a small piece of string.

Can I recycle my hammock or hanging chair?

Is your hammock really worn out, beyond repair or cleaning? You can hand in the hammock at a clothing collection point. The fabric can be 100% recycled. ♻

At a clothing collection point they will first sort the good clothing if it can still be reused. The worn-out clothing or fabrics are then recycled. So you can simply hand in your hammock at such a point.

If the hammock has a spreader bar, remove this before returning the hammock.

Hanging a hammock

How do you hang a hammock?

Always stretch your hammock first

Always stretch your new hammock. A new hammock stretches 5-15%! A hammock is finished and/or woven by hand. As a result, there are always small differences in length per hammock.

Just hang your hammock somewhere and lie down in your hammock. After 5 minutes the hammock has the correct length.

🇧🇷 Brazil 10-15%
🇨🇴 Colombia 5-10%
🇨🇳 China 5-10%
🇮🇳 India ± 5%
🇲🇽 Mexico 5-10%

Determine the hanging height and length 📏

Some prefer a slightly more tightly hung hammock, others like to lie in a loosely hung hammock. There is only one rule: you can always hang a hammock looser and not tighter. Hanging up tighter is only possible if you move the suspension points.

Hang your hammock with two people. You first determine the hanging height and length. Each person picks up the (stretched) hammock on one side and then decides where the hammock should be placed.

Don't forget to subtract the hanging material from the distance. The center of the hammock should hang 40-50 cm above the ground.

Hanging a classic hammock

A classic hammock should hang like a banana. A little loose between the two suspension points.

The distance between the two suspension points can be determined by a simple rule: the suspension height should be approximately half of the suspension distance. You still have some room for a carabiner.

If the distance between the suspension points is larger, the hammock must be mounted a little higher and you will therefore need to use an extra rope or chain.

The image below gives an indication of the hanging height and hanging length. The hanging length is not the total length of the hammock, because the hammock is longer.

Hammock hanging scheme

Hanging our classic hammocks

The table below shows our personal preference for our classic hammocks when you hang them without extra rope, chain or carabiner.

With our preference, you can easily hang the hammock 10-20 cm higher without sacrificing comfort. If you hang the hammock 10 cm higher, the distance between the suspension points decreases by ± 20 cm. There is a lot of variation in distance and height possible.

Hammock length Distance of suspension points Height of suspension points
Small 290 cm ± 270 cm ± 120 cm
Single 320 cm ± 300 cm ± 130 cm
Double 350 cm ± 330 cm ± 140 cm
Family 400 cm ± 380 cm ± 160 cm
Mammock 500 cm ± 460 cm ± 200 cm

Hanging a hammock with a spreader bar

A hammock with a spreader bar must hang fairly tightly between the two suspension points. The tighter the hammock is hung, the greater the comfort. A double or family hammock with spreader bar may hang a little looser.

The hanging height should be approximately half the distance between the suspension points minus 30 centimeters.

The image below gives an indication of the hanging height and hanging length. The hanging length is not the total length of the hammock, because the hammock is longer.

Spreaderbar hammock hanging scheme

Hanging our spreader bar hammocks

In the table below our personal preference for our spreader bar hammocks when you hang them without extra rope, chain or carabiner.

With our preference, you can easily hang the hammock 10-20 cm higher without sacrificing comfort. If you hang the hammock 10 cm higher, the distance between the suspension points decreases by ± 10 cm. There is a lot of variation in distance and height possible.

Hammock length Distance of suspension points Height of suspension points
Single 320 cm ± 310 cm ± 120 cm
Double 350 cm ± 335 cm ± 130 cm
Family 400 cm ± 380 cm ± 150 cm

There is no perfect calculation!

The data we provide is indicative. Intended to inform you as best as possible about the possible dimensions so that you can order the correct hammock. This suggested height and length is absolutely not mandatory. The hanging distance can be smaller if you have enough height and vice versa.

Never start drilling or screwing without determining the exact position by holding the (stretched) hammock in the correct position with two people. Our hammocks sometimes also have small size differences.

How do I hang my hammock between two stone walls?

When hanging between two stone or concrete walls, you will have to drill. But first you will have to check whether the wall is safe enough. We have various hanging systems available.

Strength of the wall 🧱

Check whether the wall is strong enough. Walls that serve as fences in particular are often very weakly constructed.

Strength of the stone or concrete 🧱

Check that the wall is not hollow. Sometimes hollow cement blocks are used that are not filled. Then the wall is sturdy, but the material you drill into is only 2 centimeters thick.

If there is a very old wall and it is already crumbling, it is not wise to hang your hammock on it.

Hammock Attachment: “Wall Hook"

This is a metal plate with a hanging loop. You attach this to the wall with 4 screws with plugs. The Wall Hook is suitable for all walls.

Drill four holes 7 centimeters deep and 12 millimeters in diameter* (more information). Insert the supplied plugs and attach the plate with the screws. Tighten firmly with a wrench and you're done!

An advantage of the Wall Hook is that the plate covers the minor damage that often occurs when drilling into the wall.

Hammock Attachment: “Complete”

These are two eye screws. The advantage is that you only have to drill one hole per side instead of four. You can further reduce the distance with the supplied rope and/or chain.

Drill a hole 8 centimeters deep and 12 millimeters in diameter* (more information). Insert the supplied plugs and screw in the eye screw. Tighten firmly, use a thick screwdriver or wrench as leverage, and you're done!

How do I hang my hammock between two wooden poles?

You will have to drill when hanging it between two posts. But first you will have to check whether the posts are safe enough. We have various hanging systems available.

Strength of the post 🪵

Check whether the post is sturdy enough. In particular, posts that serve as a fence are sometimes not placed deep enough.

If the post is outside, also check whether the bottom has not rotted.

Hammock Attachment: “Wall Hook”

The Wall Hook is only suitable for square posts due to its plate.

This is a metal plate with a hanging loop. You attach this to the post with 4 screws without plugs.

You need to pre-drill the wood. This is to prevent cracks in the wood or cracking of the screws.

Drill four holes 7 centimeters deep and 5-6 millimeters in diameter* (more information). Then attach the plate with the screws. Tighten firmly with a wrench and you're done!

Hammock Attachment: “Complete”

Suitable for both round and square posts.

These are two eye screws. The advantage is that you only have to drill one hole per side instead of four. Pre-drilling is also important here. You can further reduce the distance with the supplied rope and/or chain.

Drill a hole 8 centimeters deep and 5-6 millimeters in diameter* (more information). Then screw in the eye screw. Tighten firmly, use a thick screwdriver or wrench as leverage, and you're done!

How do I hang my hammock between two metal pipes?

You will have to drill when hanging it between two metal posts or pipes. You will have to drill through the entire post or pipe. Instead of a screw you will have to use a nut and bolt. You will have to insert the bolt through the entire tube and secure it at the back with a nut.

Because every situation is different, we do not have any hanging systems available for this. Measure the pipes and take photos of the situation. Take this to the local hardware store and get advice.

How do I hang my hammock between two trees?

You do not need to drill when hanging it between two trees. But you will have to check whether the trees are safe enough. We have various hanging systems available.

Strength of the tree 🌳

Check whether the tree is strong enough. It is best to just shake the tree and/or branch vigorously and hang to check this.

Hammock Attachment: “Tree Strap”

A black band about 5 cm wide. You wrap this around the tree or branch and easily hang the hammock or hanging chair on one of the many loops with the supplied carabiners.

Due to its design, it is less suitable as a permanent solution, but rather for hanging somewhere quickly.

Hammock Attachment: “Simple”

Wrap the rope around the branch or tree 1-2 times. Then tie it tightly. You can then adjust the rope using the rope adjuster.

How do I hang my hammock or hanging chair from the ceiling?

When hanging from a ceiling you will have to drill. But first you will have to check whether the ceiling is safe enough. We have various hanging systems available.

Unlike mounting in a wall, it is important that the mounting can rotate. As a result, no forces are built up. This can be done simply with a piece of rope or with a swivel.

Strength of the concrete ceiling 🧱

Check whether the concrete is strong enough. This is actually always the case with a concrete ceiling.

Strongness of the wooden ceiling 🪵

If it concerns a wooden ceiling, you will always have to attach it to a beam. A wooden plank is not sturdy enough!

Hanging Chair Mounting: “360” Comfort

This is a metal plate with a hanging loop that can rotate. You attach this to the wall with 2 screws with plugs. The 360 Comfort is suitable for all ceilings.

Concrete: Drill two holes 7 centimeters deep and 12 millimeters in diameter* (more information). Insert the supplied wedge bolts and attach the plate with the screws. Tighten firmly with a wrench and you're done!

Wood: Drill two holes 7 centimeters deep and 5 millimeters in diameter* (more information). Insert the supplied wood screws and attach the plate with the screws. Tighten firmly with a wrench and you're done!

An advantage of the “360” Comfort is that the plate covers the minor damage that often occurs when drilling in the ceiling.

Hanging Chair Attachment: “Complete”

These are two eye screws. The advantage is that you only have to drill one hole per side instead of four.

Drill a hole 8 centimeters deep and 12 millimeters in diameter* (more information). Insert the supplied plugs and screw in the eye screw. Tighten firmly, use a thick screwdriver or wrench as leverage, and you're done!

How do I hang my hammock or hanging chair on my balcony?

A balcony often has different constructions and options. For example, there may be a wall, ceiling or supports made of metal or concrete. Therefore, see the information above for the most common options for hanging a hammock. You may have to combine options.

If this information is not sufficient, we recommend taking photos of the situation and seeking advice from the local hardware store. You can then explain the situation personally so that the right choices are made.

You can of course also opt for a hammock stand. The hammock stand "Space Saver" is extra compactly designed so that it also fits on an average balcony. Please measure this yourself so that you are not surprised by the dimensions..

Tips for drilling

Drilling in concrete or stone 🧱

For best results, use a sturdy impact drill with a new masonry drill bit.

Especially when drilling in soft stone, the hole can become larger than the diameter of the drill bit. This is because you move the drill a bit without noticing. It may therefore be wise to use a slightly smaller drill bit.

Drilling in wood 🪵

You must always pre-drill the wood with a wood drill. If you do not do this, there is a good chance that the wood will split or the screw will break off.

Pre-drilling is done with a wood drill that has half the diameter of the screw.

Drilled too big?

For wood, you can use a wood filler to close the hole again. For concrete, use a hole filler. Every hardware store has this in stock and can advise you further on this.

We do not recommend drilling a new hole in the same place. Do this at least 5 centimeters away.

* Check dimensions

Check the diameter and depth you need to drill on the product page and follow the instructions in the manual. The dimensions above may have changed.

Hammock in a hammock stand

You have a hammock stand and want a new hammock?

To choose the right hammock for your own hammock stand, you must first measure the hammock stand. Only then will you know which hammock fits in your hammock stand.

Note: When in doubt, always order a smaller hammock. Unfortunately, it happens too often that customers order a hammock that is too large. You can then hang the hammock perfectly with a chain or rope!

Measuring the hammock stand 📏

Step 1: Measure the length between suspension points

Measure the length between the two suspension points. The suspension point is often a chain, hook or carabiner. So you do not measure the total length of the hammock stand.

Step 2: Measure the height of suspension points

Then measure the height of the suspension point. So you do not measure the total height of the hammock stand.

Step 3: Choosing the right stand

In the table below you can see which hammocks fit in your hammock stand.

Length between suspension points Height of suspension points Suitable hammock
280 cm or shorter 100 cm or lower -
280 cm or longer 100 cm or higher Small

You have a hammock and want a new hammock stand?

Was the hammock purchased from us and/or is it the brand Tropilex or 123 Hammock? Then look at the product page of the hammock. All suitable hammock stands are shown on the product page.

Is it a different brand of hammock? First stretch the hammock very well. A hammock that has not been used for a while can shrink by 5-10%. The best method is to temporarily hang the hammock and lie in it for five minutes. Then measure the total length of the hammock while stretching it out with force. It is best to do this with two people.

Note: When in doubt, always order the larger hammock stand. Unfortunately, it happens too often that customers order a hammock stand that is too small. You can then hang the hammock perfectly with the supplied chains!

Hanging chair in a hanging chair stand

You have a hanging chair stand and want a new hanging chair?

The minimum hanging height is indicated for each hanging chair on our site. This minimum hanging height may not exceed the distance between the ground and the hanging hook of the hanging chair stand.

So measure the height between the ground and the hook or chain of the hanging chair stand. This is the maximum hanging height of the hanging chair stand. The hanging chair must therefore have a smaller minimum hanging height.

Is the hanging chair stand higher than the minimum hanging height of the hanging chair? That's not a bad thing, of course. You can always hang the hanging chair a little lower with a chain or rope.

You can also easily filter by the minimum hanging height of the hanging chair on the hanging chair category page.

Wooden hanging chair / hammock stand

What should I know about a wooden stand?

The wooden hanging chair and hammock stands are made of Northern European spruce or larch wood. The wood is impregnated so you can enjoy it for a long time! If you maintain the wooden stand well, you don't have to do anything for the first few years.

Discoloration and small cracks in the wood are normal for wood, but the stand will not rot in the garden thanks to impregnation. The standard will become gray over time.

Of course you want to enjoy your stand for as long as possible. We therefore recommend that you store the stand in a dry place in autumn/winter and protect it against extreme weather conditions and dirt.

Enjoy extra long? Then make sure that the hammock stand can dry properly in the sun. So don't place it under a tree, for example. It stays moist for much longer under a tree. It is also best to place the legs on tiles instead of in the grass or sand.

How do I maintain my hammock stand?

The stand can be cleaned with mild soapy water. Wet the stand well, because then the pores of the wood will open and it will be easier to clean.

Is the stand really dirty? Then use a soft brush and wood cleaner. Wood cleaner contains special ingredients that remove algae and moss better. Do not use a high-pressure cleaner. This damages the wood.

If there are rusty metal parts, such as hooks or rings, you can clean them with a wire brush and then treat them with a rust inhibitor to prevent further corrosion.

Do I need to apply extra protection?

The hammock stand will gray over time. By treating them (after cleaning), you can prevent or remedy this process. You can treat the stand with oil, stain or lacquer.

It is often useful to first lightly sand the stand so that the treatment you use adheres better.

Oil

Oil ensures that the wood does not dry out and retains its natural appearance. Oil is absorbed well into the wood and protects the wood from the inside. It is also easy to update. Our preferred solution.

Stain

Stain is also a substance that penetrates the wood and protects your stand against various weather conditions. You can buy stain in different colors, so you can immediately give your stand a different look.

Lacquer

Lacquer provides an extra layer on the wood that protects against weather influences and makes the stand easier to clean. The disadvantage of lacquer is that it can crack.

There are small cracks in the wood?

Wood is a natural product that continuously adapts to the environment and cracks are part of that. When cracks appear, it is often thought that there is a defect in the wood. Fortunately, the cracks do not affect the strength of the wood.

More cracks occur in the summer period than in the other seasons. Dry and warm weather causes the wood to shrink, causing cracks to appear. During a wet period, the wood absorbs moisture, causing the cracks to become smaller or even disappear.

Cracks can never be completely prevented. You can reduce it by keeping the wood supple with, for example, an oil.

Warranty on a wooden stand

The warranty for a wooden stand is 1 year from the date of purchase. If the wooden stand shows material or manufacturing defects within 1 year, we will repair or replace the stand.

The warranty applies to material or manufacturing defects. This warranty does not apply to product parts that are subject to normal use or weather influences. Use in public spaces, such as campsites and holiday parks, is excluded from the warranty. The stand must be stored dry at all times when not in use if you wish to make use of the warranty.

Cracks are not covered by the warranty. If a crack is so deep that it passes through the drill holes on both sides, we will repair it on a goodwill basis if the product is less than one year old.

Metal hanging chair / hammock stand

What should I know about a metal stand?

The metal hanging chair and hammock stands are made of high-quality steel and have a powder coating so you can enjoy them for a long time! If you maintain the metal stand properly, you don't have to do anything to it.

Small scratches and flash rust are normal for metal, but the stand will not rust away in the garden.

Of course you want to enjoy your stand for as long as possible. We therefore recommend that you store the stand in a dry place in autumn/winter and protect it against extreme weather conditions and dirt.

There are small scratches on the metal?

Unfortunately, scratches can never be completely prevented. Scratches will occur through use, especially when taking the hammock stand apart and taking it apart. As long as only the top layer of the paint is damaged, this is not a problem.

To remove scratches, you can buy a scratch repair pencil at your local hardware store. We recommend treating scratches immediately. If the scratch has damaged the bottom layer of paint, the stand may rust.

There are small rust spots on the metal?

Sometimes rust can occur on the stand. This is often surface rust or flash rust. This is not harmful.

Flying rust is a form of corrosion that occurs on metal that is exposed to the outside air. It is often caused by iron particles floating in the air and depositing on the surface of metal objects. These particles can come from brake dust, exhaust fumes, industry, railways and other sources.

You can often easily remove this rust with a mild soap and a scouring pad. Is it more persistent? Then follow the following steps:

  1. Start by cleaning the metal surface to remove dirt, dust and other debris. This can be done with water and car shampoo or a mild detergent.
  2. Examine the surface carefully to identify areas affected by flash rust. These may be small orange or brown spots.
  3. Apply a rust remover to the affected areas. There are various rust removers available in the form of sprays, gels or liquids. Follow the instructions on the package for best results.
  4. If the rust spots are persistent, it may be necessary to sand them lightly with fine sandpaper or a scouring pad. Be careful not to damage the metal.
  5. Rinse the treated surface thoroughly with water to remove any residue of the rust remover.
  6. After the rust has been removed, it is important to protect the metal surface from further corrosion. This can be done by applying a layer of car wax or a special metal protector.

It is wise to treat flash rust as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the metal. Regularly keeping the hammock stand clean will help reduce the formation of flash rust.
